Hayden's 1st Thanksgiving
The crazy thing about all of this is how pleasant she was. What a sweetie!
Thanksgiving 2008
Thanksgiving was great this year. We really had a good time even with a couple of sick kids and Dan and Suzanne at the Papa house. Sherwood got back from California on Monday, just in time for the holiday. It was nice to see him after being gone for about 6 months. He invited his friend Kati to join us, she drove from Telluride, Colorado. We enjoyed having her and the kids thought it was great to have new friend. Chase took a special interest in her right away. After just a few minutes with him she told Sherwood that Chase was "Precious." We all just laughed, because to tell the truth Chase can get a little crazy. We told her that we would ask her if He was still "Precious" after she had spent a couple of days with him.
We ate dinner at around 2:00 p.m. and then enjoyed chatting and games. Everyone finally headed home around 10 p.m. totally exhausted, but happy.

Pies, Pies, and more Pies.....
Every year on the night before thanksgiving all the "Jolley girls" get together to make all of the pies for Thanksgiving Day. This has been a tradition since all of us have gotten married. This year Lisa stopped by for dinner, but ended up leaving before the pie making got started and Suzanne came at around ten o'clock when she got off work. My mom and I started at around six o'clock. We have all gotten pretty good at making our own pies with a few simple tricks from mom. Handle your dough as little as possible and ice water. Our pie making adventure gets complicated only because of the number of pies that we make this year our grand total was 11 (along with 6 or seven mini pies for the grandkids), which was less than last year, but still a definite undertaking. Everything went really smooth. Other than baking a couple of crusts that weren't supposed to be baked and putting the wrong filling in a couple of Suzanne's pie crusts we actually did pretty good. It is better than the year that we doubled the salt in the recipe. Anyways we got all of them made and we got to bed about two o'clock. What fun and boy were they good! This tally doesn't include the cake and brownies that Lisa and Jeremy made. Do you think we all have a sweet tooth? Just in case you're wondering what the picture of the clock is all about. Cody and Dad were watching "The Bad News Bears" for the second time that night. It was almost 1:30 a.m. and they couldn't turn it off, even though they had already watched it that night.

Coupons Really Work!
Fast forward to one week ago. I attended a class on couponing. Apparently I was doing it all wrong. They gave me a link to a website called grocerysmarts.com and a lot of information. I left totally motivated and ready to start saving money. So on Friday I decided to give it another try. I spent a couple of hours on the website getting familiar with it and preparing my shopping list. Finally I was ready to brave the grocery store again with my list and coupons in one hand and my husband's hand in the other.
We started with Albertson's and even though that is not my usual store, I was told that they have really great sales. So I went through my list (Wow preparing ahead of time really makes it go smoothly.) Potatoes-Check, baby food-Check, popcorn-Check, vegetables-Check, Cereal-Check, etc.....
Finally we were ready to check out. The stress was building. What if this didn't work? What if I read the coupon wrong? What if, What if, What if? I watched as the total got higher and higher. Then I handed her my coupons and suddenly the total got lower and lower. Wow, I have already passed my previous $6.00 accomplishment. Finally she rang everything in.
Total $53.64. Savings $146.89.
Is she sure? Can that be right. Wow! I am good. I am sold.
Thank-you Grocerysmarts!

Wow, this really makes you think....
Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together.
Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.
Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream and whine for the ice cream truck and I will buy you one if he comes by.
Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be when you grow up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.
Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't stand over you trying to fix them.
Just for this afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can have both toys.
Just for this evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story about how you were born and how much I love you.
Just for this evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get angry.
Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars.
Just for this evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours, and miss my favorite TV shows.
Just for this evening when I run my finger through your hair as you pray, I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given.
I will think about the mothers And fathers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their children's graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly, and screaming inside that they can't handle it anymore.
And when I kiss you good night I will hold you a little tighter, a Little longer. It is then, that I will thank God for you, and ask Him for nothing, except one more day............

My sweet little Chasey....
Chase is always saying or doing things that make me smile. My mom actually told me a couple of months ago that I should start blogging just so I could keep track of all the funny things he does. And although I keep journals for all of my kids to track there milestones, I am sure that I am forgetting some of the funny day to day stuff that they say and do. So now that I have a blog I will try to keep track of them.
-After our four-wheeling trip Chase was following my Dad around tormenting him. Chase is a total tease. He kept pushing my Dad in the back/bum. Thanks heavens Grandpa is patient. Finally Chase lunged at my Dad, but my Dad was ready for him. He sidestepped and Chase fell down into the mud. Since Chase is always dirty a little mud didn't hurt him.
-One day I laid Chase down for his afternoon nap. After about fifteen minutes I could still hear him up there chatting with himself. I walked to the bottom of the stairs and asked him what was wrong. He said that his shirt wouldn't let him take a nap. A few minutes later I heard him again. Again I asked him what was wrong and he said that his shirt wouldn't let him take a nap. I asked him if he thought he could ignore his shirt. He told me that he would ignore his shirt and a few minutes later he was sleeping soundly. A couple of days later I laid him down for his nap and he told me that he was going to go right to sleep, because he was going to ignore his shirt.
-The other day the boys were playing outside. All of the sudden Chase came running into the house. I thought that someone had died by the way he was screaming. I asked him what was wrong and he told me that he had eaten some "Green Berries." He said that his mouth was burning. I got him some milk out of the fridge and poured him a glass. All the while he was spitting and rubbing his tongue trying to get the "HOT" out of his mouth. When I handed him the glass I noticed that he had something on his lip. It looked like a jalepeno seed, which by the way is the hottest part of the pepper. I asked him if he ate a jalepeno out of the garden. He said yes he ate the "green berries" out of the garden. I went outside to check on the other boys and they told me that one of the other boys had put one in his mouth, but realized rather quickly that is was hot and spit it out. But of course Chase had to eat the whole thing. After 3 glasses of milk and 2 spoonfuls of sugar he was finally able to go back outside.
We love Chase and the ability he has to make everyone around him happy.
Happy Birthday Lukar.....
